STRATEGY
GridSetter
Smart Grid Bot
GridSetter automates multi-level position entry by creating a price grid from session high and low values, then progressively scaling into trades as price touches each level.
The tool generates orders across a structured grid framework, allowing you to average your position on adverse moves while managing risk through configurable stops and targets. The strategy resets with each new session, creating a consistent framework for different market hours.
Description
During each session, the system calculates the session range automatically. If grid range spread is configured, additional steps extend above and below the session boundaries. Trading can start immediately or wait for a moving average to establish direction.
Two entry order types define how trades trigger: limit orders enter at exact grid levels while stop market orders trigger on breakouts with reliable fills. Trade mode determines direction, with trend mode entering long above the moving average and short below it.
Once an entry fills, the strategy automatically scales at each grid level until the maximum scale-ins limit or grid boundary is reached. The grid boundary acts as a hard stop preventing further scaling.
Exit and Risk Management
The profit target sits at a set number of grid steps from average entry price. The stop loss sits one grid step beyond the deepest scale-in level. When target even after scale-in is enabled, positions can exit at break even after scaling in, with an offset percentage for commissions.
Filtering and Control
Direction and volatility filters control when trades are allowed:
Session Configuration
Define precise start and end times for each session. The extend trading period setting allows captures beyond session close. When close at end of trading period is enabled, all positions close at session end; when disabled, they carry over. Select which days are active for trading.
Customization
Moving average type can be SMA, EMA, WMA, or HMA. Higher periods create smoother MAs, while lower periods react faster. Grid size percent determines level spacing: increasing it gives fewer entry points, decreasing provides tighter levels. Visualization options include plot grid for all grid lines and plot targets for profit targets and break even levels.
Main Features
Session-Anchored Grid
Define start/end times and the bot builds evenly spaced levels from that day’s range, with optional extensions above and below to catch overshoots.
Noise-Aware Direction Filter
A moving average with a small “flat epsilon” resists micro-whipsaws, flipping direction only when slope meaningfully changes.
Two Entry Styles
Choose limit retraces for precision or stop-market continuations for momentum; both obey your bias (trend or counter-trend)
Controlled Scale-Ins
Add size in measured steps as price moves against you, bounded by a maximum number of additions and hard outer grid limits.
Cost-Aware Break-Even
After a scale-in, optional “target-even” plus a configurable offset aims to cover fees and slippage, not just touch theoretical zero.
End-of-Session Risk-Off
Flatten automatically at the end of your defined window so positions don’t roll into the next day unless you explicitly allow it.
Range Filters
Require a minimum expansion to avoid dead sessions or cap maximum expansion to skip outlier volatility before any orders are placed.
On-Chart Clarity
Plot grids and target lines on the price panel, and optionally show the prior session’s grid for immediate visual context.
